Vijayawada Airport
Vijayawada Airport is a public domestic airport, situated at a distance of 13.5 kilometers from Vijayawada city center. The airport is located on National Highway 5 connecting Chennai to Kolkata. It is a mid-sized domestic airport serving Andhra Pradesh Capital Region. Its runway was extended to 7,500 feet in 2011, allowing for the operation of bigger aircraft.〔 In anticipation of an increase in air traffic from Vijayawada after it was declared the capital of the Re-organised Andhra Pradesh, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is developing and making infrastructural changes to the airport.
==History==
The airfield served as an army base during the World War II, after which it was converted into a civilian airport. Air Deccan introduced a daily service between Hyderabad and Vijayawada in September 2003. The airport covers an area of 500 acres and is surrounded by farm land.
